The market town of Bakewell is only two miles away and boasts a number of shops, restaurants and pubs. Old black and white pictures shows steam trains bursting out of the tunnel and onto the viaduct with the river far below, and it is a shame that such views are not available now. The reopening of the tunnels meant that the trail now continued through a deep cutting towards the tunnel's eastern portal. The Monsal trail section was very busy with cyclists and families, its much nicer once you turn off up the bridle path. At the roundabouts go straight (slightly right) up Church street.
